Sigh. So Ann Coulter is once again generating headlines, as she called John Edwards a "faggot" at the CPAC convention. As everyone gets into a froth, Ann is laughing all the way to the bank. This stuff helps her sell books, and continues to get her publicity, which in turn gets her speaking gigs.

Now, we here at CliffSchecter.com could call her a tranny with an Adam's Apple so large it could clog a toilet. We could point at that as a childless single woman, she has far more in common with KD Lang than June Cleaver. We could mention that she reminds us of Olive Oil from the Popeye cartoons, though Olive wasn't a bilious skank. But that only stoops to her level, and does nothing.

No, the only way to change this is to make her toxic. We have to expose her as an attention seeking, vulgar bombthrower who has no place in politics, and to make sure that any viable candidate for any office has to repudiate her. We have to hunt down Mitt Romney, and have him disown her endorsement today, or tar him as intolerant.

We also have to get the Republican leadership to disown her comments. The Weekly Standard went after Arianna Huffington after some posters on her website cheered the attempt on the Vice-President's life. Now we ought to make The Weekly Standard, and every other so-called respectable Republican, repudiate Coulter and the CPAC crowd, which applauded. These aren't random anonymous posters to a website, this is a leading light of the conservative movement and the actual foot soldiers of the movement. If they don't condemn Coulter and CPAC, aren't they just hypocrites?

She must be about to promote a new book, since she seems to be at her worst just prior to a book tour.

Absolutely we should make them disown her. Unfortunately, as we do that, even if we succeed, further attention will be tossed her way.

And just as Obama got all that bad press for his use of the word "wasted" while McBush got a free pass, I fear that the corporate media would twist any efforts to condemn these slimeballs into something benefiting Ann the Man.

Great post BC. Seriously, good stuff and you are right on point. They are trying to make blogger toxic right now (see the bloggers fight). They have done it to George Soros, Moveon, labor, trial lawyers, etc.

Why don't we do the same. We may not have the same media megaphones, but we can do it at this point.

Oh and btw, I am going to CPAC tomorrow, will say hi for you.

Although gottalaff's point is well taken too. It's a tough balance.

The NBA needs to tell her she can't go to Basketball games.

c-pac should be critized for having her as a speaker and all the gay conservatives should be asked how they feel about her hate speech

she survives because she is useful to people -she says what they know is politically incorrect but still want to send that message. Wonder way the Quee of self loathing Tammy Bruce has to say about this

Uh oh. As recently discussed here at great length, it's really better if you just. don't. go. there. Don't even go there, but say you're not going there. If you take seriously what I know are your best-considered beliefs about "trannies" and "skanks", you won't go there. At the least, you're pissing off a number of people who are otherwise your close allies. Just. don't. Please.

I gotta tell ya Ken, this post wasn't by me, but BC, but I am going to defend him/her.

I respect what you are saying as well as the writers for Feministe, but simply do NOT agree.

It is the same as my philosophy when I go on tv. I am not going to let them viciously attack everything about us, and then feel guilty about pointing out that Cheney is a fat-ass and Ann Coulter is really Tom Petty. I guess my writing and debating is not for everyone (or BC's writing for that matter), but we at this blog believe that we give as good as we get (if not better).

And if that silly bitch (yes, I just said that) is going to make fun of Hillary Clinton's weight, Cindy Sheehan's legs and Max Cleland's lack of legs (yes, she has done all of that), then game on. No holds barred. And I don't apologize. Knowing BC, I assume he/she feels the same way, but I will let BC speak to that.

Ken,

My take is slightly different then Cliff's. First, it was done to be humorous.

Second, it's not a "tit for tat" thing, but making a larger point. Calling people outrageous names is what she does to garner attention. It's a silly trick, but Coulter has used it to earna damn good living. I want to expose that trick. If it engenders a larger debate, all the better.

Coulter is the "Paris Hilton" of politics. She gets attention by doing things that get attention (Shock value), but have little political value. Calling for SC Justices's to be murdered, calling Dem politicians gay, these aren't Rovian strategies, but Hiltonian strategies. And to argue seriously with someone who's argument has all the nutritional value of fluff is a waste.
