San Fran Chronicle Piece
Sorry boys and girls, a bit of self-promotion. I guess it is my site after all (even though I'm easily the dumbest person who writes for it), so what the hell.
I just published an op-ed in the San Francisco Chronicle on what McCain has done wrong so far and what he failed to accomplish in the debate last week.

Great article,Cliff. I was just discussing McCain on another blog with a guy who is an Independent. He likes McCain and always brings up the old McCain maverick positions. I tried to gently tell him that "Maverick McCain" is dead and has been resurrected as "Stepford Candidate McCain".
I can't see how anyone would take him seriously if he tried to back-peddle and be the "Maverick" again. IMO, he's in the Bush merde too deep.

Becoming "the old McCain" again will help him win back the trust of a media scorned, which recently has come to regard him like any other cynical politician.
Can McCain do this? Who knows. But what is clear is that he will not win over conservatives.
No, McCain can't do this. He's already blown it, and he can't become what he's not. Again.
Excellent piece, btw. Clear, easy to understand, makes the points well. You know, your usual excellent quality.

(Not to say that I agree...I'm the more dumbererer because I'm blogging instead of finishing my gardening on this beautiful Chicago day.)
