Very Sad If True

I am hearing rumors everywhere that John Edwards is dropping out of the race. Even worse I am hearing it has to do with his wife's health (you may remember she has had to fight off cancer in the recent past).

There is a press conference scheduled for today. Elizabeth Edwards truly seems to be a wonderful person, so I obviously pray that my information is wrong.

As for her husband's getting out of the race, he was quickly becoming solidified as my top choice, with his strong positions on universal healthcare and Iraq, and his not taking a moment to "think about" his answer as to whether homosexuality is "immoral." (which is symbolic of how he has answered tough questions throughout this race, with "others" triangulating at every turn).

This will have political ramifications, for the Democratic field, and me personally, as I was finally settling in as an Edwards guy (though not 100% there yet). But we can discuss that later.

For now, let's wait and see what Edwards has to say today and wish him and his family the best, no matter what his press conference is about.

This is very sad, if it's true. I have no doubt, however, that if his wife needs him, he'll quit the race. The one thing you can never take away from John Edwards is that he is a total stand-up guy and always puts his family above everything else.

I just hope the wing nuts don't make a bunch of derogatory remarks about Elizabeth...not that I would put it past them.

Good thoughts to the Elizabeth Edwards. I don't think he is going to drop out but perhaps going on to a reduced schedule...so he can be with her during treatment.

I agree with KGC- My feeling is that if she needs to get back on chemo/radiation he will either scale back his participation or just stop for a period of time.

She has been a great role model for millions of cancer victims.

Good candidates have no hope.

A lot of people are finding Edwards an excellent choice. Clinton and Obama get a lot of press attention but Edwards has boots on the ground with labor support. organized labor recognizes the importance of this campaign and they are with Edwards. You can have all the media attention in the world but if you can't get your voters to the polls it means nothing.

Evidently she had a "regular" checkup on Monday - she had been in remission. They called her on Tuesday and asked her to come back the next day.

He's a good guy I agree - and I also hope that he just scales back during her treatment. She is such a role model for breast cancer survivors.

John of Americablog is reporting that "someone" has stated the cancer has reappeared in her lung.

Is this a metastases or is it another form of tumor?

He will undoubtedly suspend or drop out if this is true.
