So now John Sununu and Gordon Smith, two Republican senators from purplish-blue states with elections in 2008 have called for Abu Gonzales (hat tip to Sean-Paul Kelley on the nickname) to step down. Anyone want to take bets on who the next vulnerable swing or blue state senator will be to cave?

I'm going with Susan Collins. But I think Norm Coleman and John Warner would be good bets too.

Pete Domenici has already been burned by this, and Liddy Dole, Lamar Alexander, Mitch McConnell and a slew of other Republicans are still too stupid to understand the mood of the American electorate and the fact that they're going to be in for the fight of their political lives in 2008.

You just gotta love sunununununu...I am going to enjoy watching him try and run away from his record in that race.

Domenici is in HUGE trouble. At this point, an investigation to his actions with regards to the Iglesias pressuring and ultimate firing is hopefully a foregone conclusion.
Congress is filled with self-serving snakes, and the good news is that if they see one of their own doing something rotten and getting caught, they'll toss him to the wolves to protect their own secrets.
As soon as it becomes popular, the calls for Gonzo's resignation will ripple through both parties.
Republicans eat their young, you know?
