Richard Clarke, the former counterterrorism chief who was one of the first insiders to publicly point out that Bush's national security policy sucks and got smeared for his efforts, has a great op-ed in today's Washington Post.

Shorter Clarke: While we have been fighting a war in Iraq that was unnecessary, seven real national security problems (at least before the callow Crawfordian got on the job and added Iraq) have gone from bad to Limbaugh. (hat tip to my pal Taylor Marsh).

Things may be in the toilet Cliff, but at least we have your sense of humor.

I'm using that Limbaugh line. Is it yours?

Yeah it's my line. All yours Fernando. No copyright (and if I ever lose my sense of humor, then the state of things might drive me back to college-level drinking)...

I liked Clarke's "7-year-old's soccer syndrome" analogy. His critiques are particularly fascinating because it's like listening to a former corporate board member rip apart their old CEO. Clarke reveals a whole other level of incompetence previously unseen and paints a very grim picture for the future.

And Speaking of "college level drinking", I wonder if anyone has studied whether alcoholism has risen disproportionately among democrats since 2000?

Then again the birth of "Drinking Liberally" groups might be all the evidence we need to answer that question.

The day you lose your sense of humor, Cliffy, is the day I'll lose mine.

But who says college-level drinking and senses of humor are mutually exclusive?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I, oh I wish we could just flush away a certain faux Texan....

hillcountrygal, I agree. I might add, he's also a faux president.

Among Democrats I have seen, certainly on many election nights there has been just a tad of the booze...Not quite the level where you suddenly are attracted to 16-year old boys or just suddenly yell anti-Semitic comments at cops though...

If only that faux Texan, faux president had kept drinking himself, we might not be in this mess...

Thanks for the linky, Cliff. I hadn't seen it referenced anywhere else (Amato missed one?????). It was quite the eye-opener.

I feel truly bad for whomever wins in '07 and has to clean all this mess up.

Good luck on the book edits.
