As a New York City boy who grew up in the Koch Era, it has been quite a spectacle to watch as he has gone from an out and out liberal to a full blown Neocon over the past two decades.

But at this point he has simply lost his mind. You want proof, here is a quote from the other day:

George Bush is a hero to me because he has courage. The president does what he believes to be in the best interest of the United States. He sticks with his beliefs, no matter how intense the criticism and invective that are directed against him every day.
The guy was always an asshole, but at least he used to be an asshole with inspiring politics. Now, he is, very simply, an asshole.

Name drop alert: I had lunch with him at City Hall once when he was mayor. We had salmon. It was very good.

I still think he's an asshole, and gets to be moreso every year.

His depiction in SHORTBUS is hilarious but surprisingly sympathetic, given his atrocious performance with regard to the AIDS epidemic.

Ed,

I know you as a New Yorker get what I am saying. He is a verbally abusive ass, but what happened to the politics.

Has he even endorsed a Democrat in ten years: Giuliani, Pataki, Bloomberg and worst of all that sleaze D'Amato and more recently Bush...

And considering, well, his personal life, one might think he had a bone to pick with the GOP. But I guess hating Arabs is more important than what you do in the bedroom...

I wrote a piece once about the speculation that Koch is a closet case, and I could find nobody who had any proof that he was gay. This was among a set of people who HATED Koch and wanted very much to bring him down, and none of them had a shred of evidence. Personally I think he's absolutely asexual. It would surprise me to learn that he had ever had a sexual experience of any sort.

As for the politics - the man is an egomaniac who will say anything to get coverage. He's much more newsworthy as a rightwing freak than just another liberal Jew from New York.
