Rep. Tom Feeney To Become The Third GOP Congressman To Go Down In Abramoff Scandal This Month

Tom Cole and the rest of the RCCC staff can't be too happy about this week. Rick Renzi resigned from all of his committees and announced he's considering resigning. Now, the FBI is investigating Tom Feeney who DENIED having a relationship with Jack Abramoff! Hmm Tom, what about that time you flew on a private jet to go on a golfing trip in Scotland with Mr. Abramoff?

Things don't look to be getting any better for Tom Feeney as his former chief of staff resigned as Deputy Campaign Manager for Mitt Romney as a result of the FBI probe.

Anyone think Feeney's seat won't be another one to add to the Democrats' target list for 2008 after this investigation is finished?
The FBI has asked U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney for information about his dealings with Jack Abramoff as part of its ongoing investigation into the lobbyist convicted of defrauding clients.

FBI agent Kevin Luebke refused to say whether Feeney, a Republican from the Orlando area, is under federal investigation.

Federal agents also have asked the St. Petersburg Times for an email sent to the newspaper by Feeney's office describing a golfing trip the congressman took with Abramoff to Scotland in 2003.

Update: Feeney only has $84,441 cash on hand in the slim chance he actually makes it to the 2008 election. Not a good outlook for his chances...

Cliff, just discovered your blog, but have enjoyed your visits to cable TV. I live in Orlando, and the prospect of Feeney going down is epic. But that seat going to Dem is a different matter. Although in news reports, they say Orlando area congressman, he actually represents Seminole County, a very conservation and affluent part of Central Florida. In fact, I believe the seat was carved out for Feeney after he left as Speaker of the Florida House. So we may rid ourselves of Feeney, but another wingnut would probably step into that seat. Not a reason to give up on it, just adding a little perspective.

All of you need to be aware of something about Rick Renzi.

John McCain says he's an "ok guy" and he is John McCain's Chairman for his Presidential run here in Arizona.

There is no question that he tried hard to interfere with Paul Charlton's investigation of his "land swap" here in Arizona and was under investigation right before the 2006 elections in November, shortly before Charlton magically appeared on the "fire" list.

He was initially represented by Grant Woods (our former Attorney General) who has since announced that Renzi has hired a Washington DC attorney Kelly B. Kramer.

Kramer's bio "Much of Kelly's recent work has involved representing public officials, lobbyists, lobbying firms, and political consultants in wide-ranging public corruptions investigations".
