Pageant contestant re-answers question
After watching the video Cliff posted down thread of Miss Teen South Carolina, I suddenly realized how smart she was. You see, I'd also just watched a clip of GW Bush.
Lauren Caitlin Upton went on the Today show and improved upon her first response. She took her flubbed answer in stride:
"Everything did come at me at once. I was overwhelmed and I made a mistake. Everybody makes a mistake. I'm human," she said Tuesday. "I seriously think I only heard about one or two words of the actual question."
Apparently.
Upton's former principal Creig Tyler remembered her as a well-rounded student.
I'd like to point out how mature I'm being by not making a comment about Mr. Tyler's reminiscence.
I'm sure some of you will join me as you always do. See you there.

I'll just bet she was "well-rounded", Mr. Tyler!
HA! She was the student body!
Ba da BING!
Am I the only one that feels sorry for this girl?
I'm not saying she's got rocket-scientist potential or anything, but give her a break already. She's a kid, and I bet it was her first time on national tv. So she was nervous and her adrenaline took over for her brain. Is it really that hard to imagine freezing up in that situation and basically saying a whole lot of nothing?
Of course, I'll admit to laughing my ass off when I first saw it, but the story's run it's course. Can we move on?
A better use of our time might actually be determining how she managed to say more intelligent things in that answer than in some provided recently by the President or Att'y General.
Okay,here it goes.
Bravo, Laffy. As usual, you have found the best joke. You are brilliant.
And as for Dennis, well yes, we all can move on, and we will. She is certainly more articulate than the Prezzie and Fredo. But that is a low standard to start with.
But we also want our fun and she's too easy a target.
Heh, I said she was easy...
Dennis,
Of course you're right. I work with teens her age all day long. Some very bright, some not. I work in theatre and TV, and none have ever said anything like that.
So, as much as I do feel for her, and I do, it's a news story. It's made the rounds. We kid.
And your are spot on with your AG comment.
Thanks, K. And hey, I kid myself harder than I kid anyone.
I kid, you kid,we all kid this poor kid.
I still think she's perfect for Faux "News", though. She can go to " Diraq" for all the " U.S. Americans".
Aren't these contestants given a ton of training and rehearsal? From the documentaries I've seen, that's how it is.
So her stage fright should have been tempered a little. As I said, working with stage teens is my field.
Most of them, with rehearsal, can handle just about anything.
A friend of my step-daughter was here last week. I had the national weather map on my notebook screen. She said her sister lived in Iowa and they had bad storms the night before. She was pointing at S.Dakota....
Oh my.
I can't say as many of the kids I work with would have done much better.
On the other hand, a friend of mine asked me where she could find a good zoo and I pointed toward the White House.
I would have done the same thing. Only to Parliament.
You sound so British.
We used to travel to BC a lot when I was growing up. I have two Merry Thought Jerry Mouse dolls to prove it. I love Canada.
P.S. I'm just finishing a margarita. Are you with me? Or just jealous?
Well, our government is based on the British, so it does sound British.
I am draining my margarita as we speak and contemplating another...
Sorry for her and all, but South America?
I sense an ambassador in the making. To Fresno.
