There already WAS gun control at Virginia Tech. All guns were BANNED from campus! Virginia Tech even denied lawful concealed carry from the campus. Since guns are banned from campus, HOW could the killer EVER have gotten his guns there?
Virginia also limits handgun purchases to 1 every 30 days.
Cho passed the federally mandated NICS check, as well as the state background checks. Although he was declared "mentally ill" he was not committed, therefore did not meet the definition for denial, and there's a good chance, even with the NICS improvement act, he still wouldn't have been denied.
Murder is currently against the law, punishable as a 1st degree felony in much of the United States.
Considering that Murder is against the law, what makes you think that banning or restricting guns in any way will stop gun violence?
Drugs are illegal, and it's pretty easy to get those. What makes you think it'd be any different if guns are restricted or banned?
It's common knowledge that lawbreakers, umm, break the law. Gun control will only disarm the lawful, decent people.
Dang right to the above poster. Gun control does nothing but make America less safe and allows the criminals to go about committing crimes that they now know they have little chance of ever seeing repercussions for. Over 80 percent of all criminals interviewed in a scientific study stated that if they were going to commit a crime such as robbery, kidnapping, etc, and the location they were going to do the crime at, there happened to be an armed civilian, they said they would walk away and find somewhere or someone else. Imagine if there was an armed person on every block. There would be less crime. Something gun grabbing people just can't get through their heads. Guns don't kill people. People do.
Example: Australia and England ban handgun ownership by the common people. Since their gun bans went into place, violent crime such as murder, robbery, and kidnapping has risen dramatically. So much for less guns = less crime.
Lewis Black is right on. It is just unbelievable how tightly some people want to hold onto their guns. What the hell has happened to this country? What? WHAT? Apparently we should all be afraid. Be very afraid. Apparently it won't end until we all shoot each other dead.
You know, I love Lewis Black's material, but I find it hard to agree with him on this. For him to use a source like the Brady center is saddening. The Brady center has a reputation of manipulating statistics (not that pro-gun sources don't do it either, so back off before anyone starts naming those organizations), and I just thought he'd be the type of guy to actually check his facts twice.
