On Anonymity

There is a Washington Post piece today in which the author, a journalism professor, argues that all bloggers and commenters at blogs should have to reveal their identities.

Hogwash (or another word I wanted to use that starts with bu and ends with it).

Here is the best response I have seen to this bunk by Sean-Paul Kelley, and Phoenix Woman reminds us that a certain man by the name of Benjamin Franklin used to write under a pseudonym.

Commie.

Having been cyberstalked by a Repukeliscum maniac who mailed copies of my posts to people in my office, I use a very rigid rule - reveal nothing at all The problem with his idea is that he believes that people are rational. In my experience, liberals are rational, and there is a strain of insane conservative who believes that it is up to them to punish unbelievers, those in favor of abortion and liberals for their existence. Until these people are eradicated or die of excess bile poisoning, I will conceal my identity.

Sean-Paul said it best: When they stop using anonymous sources, we'll stop using pseudonyms.

Also, how about Publius?

The entire philosophical rational for the US Constitution was submitted in LTEs to the NY newspapers anonymously by Hamilton (w/ Madison and Jay)!

Weird. Blogger just made me sign in again. I've left about 5 comments, and now it doesn't believe it's me. I guess I shouldn't have used my pseudonym.

Free speech is ugly. democracy is messy. what can you do? If Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter are allowed to breathe, I think we can put with anonymous blogging.
