Will Fred Thompson use Campaign to Raise Money for Libby Defense?

In light of Thompson's continued moves toward establishing a Presidential campaign, its about time someone asks the question. Remember that Fred Thompson is one of Scooter Libby's chief supporters and fundraisers.

ABC 2 WKRN-TN - Feb. 24, 2006:

"Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson has joined efforts to fund the defense of vice president Dick Cheney's former aide. Thompson is among more than two dozen prominent republicans trying to raise five million dollars for Lewis 'Scooter' Libby's defense fund."

Ex-Sen. Fred Thompson (R-TN) is among 27 "prominent" GOPers and Bush admin supporters on the advisory cmte for the Libby Legal Defense Trust, the legal defense fund trying to raise $5M or more "to aid" indicted ex-Cheney CoS Lewis "Scooter" Libby. Trust spokesperson/atty Barbara Comstock said "she reached out" to Thompson to aid the Libby defense effort, "and he agreed." Comstock: "He was very interested in this because he is a former prosecutor, formerly on the Intelligence Committee, served on the Governmental Affairs Committee (as chairman). I think he really had a sense about the sort of the unfairness of this whole situation."

So the question remains: Will Mr. Thompson continue to raise money for potential Libby appeals while running for President? And will Thompson pardon Scooter Libby if elected?
