Today is an important day you probably don't know about....

The Prosecuter Purge

GOP lawmakers tried to influence federal investigation

WASHINGTON - Sen. Pete Domenici and Rep. Heather Wilson of New Mexico pressured the U.S. attorney in their state to speed up indictments in a federal corruption investigation that involved at least one former Democratic state senator, according to two people familiar with the contacts.

The alleged involvement of the two Republican lawmakers raises questions about possible violations of House of Representatives and Senate ethics rules and could taint the criminal investigation into the award of an $82 million courthouse contract.

Senate hearings started at 10a on CSpan 3 which I don't have, but you can watch online here and they are live blogging over at Daily Kos.
From the live blogging, Schumer says
Some in the admin were seeking to turn US Attorneys into political operatives... what are we to think when there are allegations of retaliation...when prosecutors appear to have been fired for no reason, or worse, as part of a political vendetta?

Talking Points Memo has been on this from the beginning. They think (and I agree) that this could be the ultimate downfall of the Bush Administration.

Excellent!! It's on Cspan radio which my computer can handle.
Arlen Specter is a mealy mouth weasel. I think he should have recused himself from the hearings since it was his office that put the freakin poison pill the the act that allowed this.

This is simply amazing. Using the office of US Representative to attempt to subvert the office of US Attorney.

Wilson and Dominici should resign, today.

From Josh's mouth to...

What little I saw of the hearings was startling. I agree with Data Guy. They need to go.
