I thought I had laughed my yearly fill with the "War on the Toy Box".

Guess not.

First Plame Case Film Set to Roll --
With Kate Beckinsale as Judy Miller?

NEW YORK The first major Hollywood film inspired by the Plame/CIA leak case is ready to roll and, surprise, the main focus apparently will not be on a character based on Valerie or Joe Wilson, Bob Novak or even Patrick Fitzgerald -- but rather on Judith Miller. And she may be played by Kate Beckinsale, who is quite a few years younger than the real thing.

Edie Falco, fresh from "The Sopranos," is targeted to play the Bill Keller role as the editor of the jailed female reporter. Matt Damon would be the prosecutor, and up-and-comer Vera Farmiga would play the dashing CIA agent.

News has emerged that Rod Lurie, known for his fine Capitol Hill drama "The Contender," will direct the film, titled "Nothing But the Truth."\
(snip)

According to Variety sources, the lead is a Washington reporter who outs a CIA agent, then is jailed for refusing to reveal her source. Shooting may begin in October.

If it happens, this would beat to the screen a planned fact-based film based on the memoir being written by Plame.

So this is not going to be fact based ? Is that the message?

Tch! Tch! Well, here's hoping it will do as well as "The Path to 9/11". Straight to DVD, then the dollar bin at Wallmart.

Lily Tomlin would have been more appropriate for the Judith role. They already have the same haircut, but then Lily is very funny whereas Judith gets laughed at for other reasons.

Plenty of actresses could have appropriately been selected for the role, like Judy Davis etc. Kate had to have been on Judith's fantastical wish list.

Judy Davis has to much depth to play Judy Miller.

Looks like drag is in this year with Travolta in Hairspray. How about James Gandolfini with a Prince Valiant haircut? I hear he's available now...

Can't they find someone dead to play her?

For a change, I'm speechless.

Tell me about it! it's enough to turn one's stomach. There's a poll at this site:

I'm obviously operating on limited evidence, and I am choosing a rather inappropriate way to talk about them, but the "physical attractiveness" of Plame and Miller in real life has is inverted by the actors who are playing them in this movie. Even from a more general appearance perspective, these actors should be playing each other's roles.

If the theory seems paranoid, then the portrayal of Judy and Valerie in the movie might offer validation one way or the other. I'm not going to watch it myself, though.

As bad as "The Path to 9/11"?!?!

It got nominated for seven Emmys!

A better choice: Linda Hunt

Watching the videos of the live-blogging on the trial, I thought then that Jane Hamsher would be perfect as Plame, even though (or maybe because) she was so recently released from the hospital...

Hamsher would be transcendant - and Plame incarnate!

Let us know when they're not in technical categories like Special Effects.

But then it would take a lot of special effects to make Kate look like Judith. A lot of bad lighting too.

No. No. It's April Fools Day, and it's on the first. You really have to get that straight.

IMDB lists Rod Lurie's next project as something called "I'm Paige Wilson" with none of the cast members being what's listed here. Where did this information come from? Also, have any of you actually seen "The Contender"? It was an excellent political film with Joan Allen as a vice presidential nominee with (perhaps) a sleazy sexual past and Gary Oldman as a truly sleazy Republican out to destroy her. I'd like to get some more info if anyone has it.

If Rod Lurie is going to direct it, I would be curious to see it. I'm pretty sure his politics in The Contender and the show Commander-in-Chief were not well liked by the right wing..

Rod Lurie's 1st film "Deterence" was very good. If he's directing this, I hope he can do it justice...OUCH>>JUSTICE? GODAMMIT, WHAT HAPPENED TO AMERICA?

They must be planning to use the makeup artist who designed Freddy Krueger's makeup from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" to create a mask for Kate Beckinsale.

They should get Ron Jeremy to play Curveball.

I'd like to second LD's suggestion of Lily Tomlin to play Judy. Twas the First thing that popped into my head.

Before the aneurysm that followed it...

I'm not sure Edie Falco is right for the Bill Keller part. She's too young.

I just hope Beckinsale signed on because she gets to play Miller as a villain instead of a martyr. I want to like her.

Before I turned off network news and morning shows forever she provided one of the great moments of American TV. I believe it was promoting the second Underworld movie and talking about the first on the Today Show she said, "I had the benefit of a wonderful education in Russian literature at Oxford and I would hand copy my script every day in Cyrillic to get in the mood." Katie Couric just stared at her for a moment and said, "Well, weren't we the one all the other girls loved to hate."

umm what the deuce??

more lies presented as fact on the big screen...

is it sponsored by fux noose? i mean WTholyF---if Matt Damon is as Politically current as he alleges to be, he wouldnt be involved in the false snooze movie ...but as with all hollywood stars, money talks truth walks

Come on, people, it's long been established that the person to play Judy Miller is Harriet Sansom Harris.

Thank you KCinDC. I had spent the last 1/2 hour looking for that character actress, the one I remember from, among other things, "Desperate Housewives" and an episode of "The X-Files," who bears an uncanny resemblance to the picture of Judy Miller. That's her.

Wow, did Katie Couric really say that? No wonder she' so powerful in the MSM. Kate Beckinsale's way too pretty to mimic Judy, but Kate's had a lot of experience playing vampires.
