In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to target Europe with missiles, including potentially nuclear weapons, in a dramatic escalation of his Cold War-style showdown with the United States.

Mr. Putin, in an interview at his summer residence outside Moscow, said he considers U.S. plans to build an eastern European anti-missile site to shoot down Iranian missiles a provocation aimed at Russia.

He repeatedly described the anti-missile system as a part of the American "strategic nuclear potential," whose existence he said requires Russia to retaliate to maintain the global "strategic balance."

Asked what he might do to retaliate, he said he would return Russia to the Cold War status where missiles were aimed at European targets.

PRESIDENT BUSH: I will answer the question. I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue.

I was able to get a sense of his soul; a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country. And I appreciated so very much the frank dialogue.

Time to do some more "frank dialogue" and "soul sensing" there George.

Yeah! No more pop up windows for comments! My computer fought me on those things and it would take forever to put in a comment.

Putin always did scare the crap out of me. I don't like his smile...it may seem nice, but there is some evil behind it. I also don't think he'll step down from his office....he looks like he likes his power too much.

Great. More real problems. And we have Bush to look to for help?

Jan. '09 can't come soon enough.

Dubya was smiling because he had convinced himself that pretending is the same as doing - that talking big and pretending leadership, understanding, persuasion, integrity and mastery is as good as learning how to do these things and actually doing them.

Putin was smiling because he knew what a simpleton Dubya is.

Why be afraid of Putin? Tell me you would not be doing the same things with Double-Duh at the helm of the U.S. I am really glad there is someone like Vladimir Putin in the world at this moment in history.

Let's be clear abt this, Bush started the military escalation against the WORLD, driven by the PNAC doctrine.
Which says directly, the U.S. will dramatically INCREASE military spending and not ALLOW any nation come even close and will dominate all nations militarily.
What does Putin see, and all other nations?
U.S. plan to introduce Space Weapons.
U.S. occupation of the Middle East, cutting off Oil from Russia.
U.S. occupation of Africa.
U.s. working to undermine Russia in the Ukraine, & other former USSR states.
U.S. missile "defense" in Poland, adversely effecting Russia.
U.S. occupying Afghanistan to build oil pipeline from Caspian, cutting off, most countries.
Russia, in it's own self-interest would be STUPID to stand by and watch this war mongering bush take over the world.

I agree with this comment completely. We need to realize that we are pushing other countries into this kinda posturing by our insane foreign policy.

Don't expect Europe to stand idly by while your Cowboy King tries to fuck us over like he did the American public. Europe and Russia have many more things in common than the US and Europe. We also depend on Russia for energy, much more than we do US oil thieves.

What I'm saying is that it is much more likely that Europe will stand with Russia against the US, than let the US bully us into WW III. Americans need to realize that in an us vs. them scenario, the only allies the US can count on are Israel and maybe South Korea.
