Sheehan Not Helping Her Cause

A quick note that piggybacks off Gottalaff's Cindy Sheehan Post. First, I think this helps Nancy Pelosi, not hurts her. The constant theme from the Right has been that Pelosi gives in to lunatic fringe of the left. Hard to repeat that when she's being challenged from the left for not giving in to their demands.

Second, Sheehan has put herself in an untenable position. She has threatened to run against Pelosi unless she starts articles of impeachment, which will never happen. Therefore, Sheehan has to run against Pelosi, or she looks weak.

If she runs against Pelosi, she has to run a respectable race. If she gets blown out, she loses any credibility. She'll have no influence with the Left and she's already despised by the Right.

But running against Pelosi will have its challenges. It's not going to be easy to raise money against Pelosi. And its going to be even harder to get any professional help in that race, as no consultant wants to be seen as going against Pelosi. Thus, Sheehan is likely to be running an underfunded campaign with an inexperienced campaign team. Not exactly a recipe for victory.

I'm not going to try to psychoanalyze Cindy Sheehan's motives. But her current course of action is undermining all the good work she has done in the past. I hope this effort is worth it for her, because she's about to become a powerless gadfly on the sidelines of history.

I feel sorry for her, that's about it at this point.
