Al Gore’s 24-year-old son was arrested and jailed in Southern California this morning.

Al Gore III, 24, was driving a blue Toyota Prius about 100 miles an hour on the San Diego Freeway... [...]

In the search, the deputy found less than an ounce of marijuana and a clutch of prescription pills that included the narcotic Vicodin, addictive sleep and anxiety aids Valium, Xanax and Soma, and the amphetamine Adderall...

“He doesn’t have a prescription for any of these pills, and that’s what makes it illegal,” said Mr. Amormino.

More than 10 hours after his arrest on drug charges, the younger Gore remained in a Southern California jail because no one had showed up to post his $20,000 bail. [...]

The elder Gore was in Britain on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear in New York City on Thursday to promote “Live Earth”... [...]

Mr. Amormino said that it “seemed unusual” that no one had bailed out the younger Mr. Gore.
He's stuck there until his arraignment, either Thursday or Friday. Sad. And regrettably, a morsel for the right wing talkers to slobber over.

Wonder if Mr. Oxycontin will blather about this or if he'll stay mum about it.

Ashen,
Right.
If he can even blather coherently.

OK, the nutjobs will make a big deal over this for a while and then it will fade away. Besides, Gore probably isn't going to jump into the race until the Fall, so that gives him a couple of months to ride this out.

But really, other than for the jokes, how does the actions of Gore's 24 year old son reflect on Gore himself? The kid is an adult now and is responsible for his own actions.

I couldn't agree more, Bruce. But like Jenna and Not Jenna's antics, we lay some of the responsibility on Bush and poke fun at his expense. They'll do the same, targeting Gore.

But, absolutely, at 24, he's all grown up and will have to deal with the consequences of what he did.

I'm wondering if his parents are doing the "tough love" thing by letting him cool his heels in the slammer. Afterall, he's been through rehab at least once before.

Albert Gore III, wearing dark sunglasses, was released from Orange County Jail in Santa Ana just before 2 p.m. and walked to a waiting car without speaking to reporters.

Mercury News.

Honestly, I'm impressed a Prius can go 100mph. :)
