Fort Dix Terrorists Trained With Assault Weapons Approved By Bush
Not sure what the story with these guys is yet, whether it's for real or hokum. But notice how the fact that the NRA thinks suspected terrorists should have the right to bear arms didn't make it into their little Jack Bauer fantasy scenario during last night's debate.
This is just one more way the Republicans fail to protect us. Imagine a day where there are 20 Virginia Techs, because the GOP is a wholly owned subsidiary of the NRA.

Stupid cretins.
Well, kind of sort of, but no... not really.
"These high capacity rifles pose an enhanced threat to law enforcement, in part because of their ability to expel projectiles at velocities that are capable of penetrating the type of soft body armor typically worn by the law enforcement officers."
Actually, any centerfire rifle cartridge, including your grandpa's .30-30 deer rifle, .30-06, .243, etc. etc. will go through a bullet proof vest like a hot knife through butter. The 7.62x39mm round the SKS fires is a mid-range cartridge and is significantly less powerful than the vast majority of modern hunting cartridges including the aforementioned.
The sunsetting of the assault weapons ban did allow the renewed importation of the SKS and others but there are already a few million of them in the country.
Anyway. ;)

Oookay. I'm missing something here. I read the post but I can't seem to find anything (nor do I think anything exists) that says the NRA wants terrorists to be able to buy firearms.
So the VPC says:
"Current law is so weak that being a known member of a foreign terrorist organization does not prohibit a person from legally buying and possessing guns."
How does this translate to "The NRA doesn't think terrorists should be prohibited from buying guns."?
Sounds like a straw man argument to me.
Chris
Chris I may not have linked because I wrote this quickly. But the NRA is trying to block a bill by Sen. Lautenberg that would prohibit suspected terrorists from buying guns.
Google it. You'll find it.
I found it on CNN. Interesting. I'm all for preventing terrorists from buying any sort of weapon. I'm curious though to the breadth of the bill.
What exactly constitutes a "suspected terrorist" though? That's the part that has me worried.
