George W. Bush To Announce Off-Shore Drilling Off Virginia Coast

Calling future U.S. Senator Mark Warner...

This is truly unbelievable. George W. Bush wants to use waters off the Virginia coast, currently marked as a Natural Landmark by the Interior Department and a World Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations, for oil and gas drilling.

The Interior Department will announce a proposal Monday to allow oil and gas drilling in federal waters near Virginia that are currently off-limits and permit new exploration in Alaska's Bristol Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, according to people who have seen or been told about drafts of the plan.

Lets hope the Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife, and other groups mobilize quickly around this...
