FBI Raids Rep. Rick Renzi's Business: Renzi Steps Down From Intelligence Committee

No, we do not have an inside source at the FBI. But to be honest, you have a fairly good chance to be right by predicting just about any Republican Congressman will be implicated in a scandal these days. First, we wrote about Rep. John Doolittle losing his seat in 2008 days before his home was raided by the FBI. Now, it appears the FBI's latest target was Rep. Rick Renzi, who we wrote last week was headed to defeat in 2008. The New York Times reports:

In a second blow to House Republicans this week, the FBI raided a business tied to the family of Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.) Thursday afternoon as part of an ongoing investigation into the three-term lawmaker...

Little is known about the inquiries into Renzi’s activities, but according to media reports the Justice Department has been running a two-track investigation into Renzi regarding a land deal, as well as a piece of legislation he helped steer that may have improperly benefited a major campaign contributor.
COMMENT BY CLIFF: I just had to add my thoughts. This is just amazing. The 2008 cycle is kicking off just like the 2006 one did. Anyone on their side could literally be next. Rep. Jerry Lewis, is that a knocking on your door? Governor Gibbons? If the Democrats don't screw this up, we are looking at an election in two years that could be as profound as the one in 1932 that cast the GOP into oblivion for almost two decades.

When your whole governing philosophy is based on the greatness of greed, it's hard to imagine things turning out any differently than this.
