Group that wants Bush to be "President-for-Life" linked to Bush Administration itself

I heard about this on, where else, the Thom Hartmann show. He discussed Democratic Underground's look at Family Security Matters. This bunch of sickos (apologies to Michael Moore) advocates that Bush should be our permanent president and that there should be no more democracy. Democracy is bad. Kings are good.

Who's on their advisory board? Reagan era remnants abound. Here are some names that Hartmann tossed out: Barbara Comstock, Laura Ingraham, Frank Gaffney, James Woolsey, and...drum roll...Dick Cheney. Oh, and by the way, it's the same Gaffney who goes on CNN with talk of aggression against Iran. That Frank Gaffney.

Here's what FSM removed from their web site:

President Bush is reviled; he has become another victim of Democracy.

By elevating popular fancy over truth, Democracy is clearly an enemy of not just truth, but duty and justice, which makes it the worst form of government. President Bush must overcome not just the situation in Iraq, but democratic government.

However, President Bush has a valuable historical example that he could choose to follow....
That valuable historic example? Julius Caesar.
If President Bush copied Julius Caesar by ordering his army to empty Iraq of Arabs and repopulate the country with Americans, he would achieve immediate results...
Eyebrows raised yet?
He could then follow Caesar's example and use his newfound popularity with the military to wield military power to become the first permanent president of America, and end the civil chaos caused by the continually squabbling Congress and the out-of-control Supreme Court.
Mine are. Raised, that is.
President Bush can fail in his duty to himself, his country, and his God, by becoming “ex-president” Bush or he can become “President-for-Life” Bush: the conqueror of Iraq, who brings sense to the Congress and sanity to the Supreme Court. Then who would be able to stop Bush from emulating Augustus Caesar and becoming ruler of the world? For only an America united under one ruler has the power to save humanity from the threat of a new Dark Age wrought by terrorists armed with nuclear weapons.

Update:
Here's the link to the original piece. As I said in Comments, Hartmann doesn't do parody, he's not easily fooled, and I trust that this is real, based on what I've heard and read. If this turns out to be a parody, you have my apologies.

The only problem is that Dubya doesn't WANT to be President anymore. He just wants to go back to Crawford, permanently.

Julius Caesar didn't have the kind of Army we have. You would see a "coup" in an instant, which would re-establish a Democracy.

I wonder if this isn't just a parody.

Re: "If the MSM ever picked this up, there would be hell to pay."

Are you kidding? With all due respect, what planet have you been living on for the last 6 years? All King George needs to do is wave the flag and say "9-11" and the imperial media fall into line fulfilling their duty as propagandists for the dictatorship.

It is stunning to me -- and damned frightening -- that so many people who are supposedly opposed to all of this are nonetheless so complacent about it and think it will all go away on its own. It doesn't seem to be sinking in with people that the so-called conservative movement in this country has become openly fascist. Even this whole blog entry seems to miss the mark. Sure, the article mentions making Bush "President-for-Life". Did anyone bother to notice, though, that the article also openly calls for genocide? That doesn't bother anyone? We are talking about a new Holocaust!

These aren't just fringe wing-nuts. This is what the conservative mainstream has become! Has anyone noticed the many conservative commentators within the last week lamenting how America needs a new 9-11?
When the Nazis rose to power, few were willing to recognize -- much less confront -- the real nature of the threat until it was too late and the damage was done. Now the same is happening in America. The Left is a sad, pathetic joke that poses no threat to anyone. The "netroots" put all of their faith in a Democratic Party that appears to be made out of wet tissue paper. And the prevailing attitude seems to be simply "this is America -- this doesn't happen here". But it is happening, and people need to wake up and recognize the real threat that we face. This is a modern Nazi movement that will not rest until they have committed a new Holocaust. And sadly, there is no meaningful opposition to them.

Note, for instance, the following quote from another article:
"A seemingly unending air control campaign over enemy territory is the way to continually remind the Muslims of their subordinate status and the impotence of Allah without becoming mired in the quagmire of counterinsurgency."

In other words, endless mass slaughter of civilian populations will force Muslims to accept status as subhumans subordinate to their American imperial masters. So how many times do these "conservatives" have to openly say they want genocide before more reasonable Americans wake up and realize these people are serious about committing genocide?

And Bush will attack Iran before his term is up. He listens to these people, even if liberals and moderates don't, and all liberals and moderates do is look to pathetic, spineless Democratic politicians who keep rolling over for the right. If this is the best we can do, we are all screwed.

To be sure, we all ought to be nervous as hell by talk such as this which is, at least to some degree, a threat to individual freedoms. Nevertheless, we can take comfort overall in this simple truth - all empires fail. In the history of our species, not a single empire has lasted permanently. This is true for one reason - human beings are not and never will be comfortable in shackles once the shackles are perceived. Sooner or later, the human spirit declares enough is enough and rebels to attain its freedom. In other words, human beings WILL be free no matter the obstacles. Empire is as nothing in the face of human spirit. If the United States is to eventually become an empire, it necessarily follows that it will one day also become a crumbled empire only remembered in history books. A new way of life will take its place which provides a greater degree of liberty to individuals. The former slaves will have discarded the weaknesses of empire to live freely off its treasures. Life goes on as it always has and it is the nature of all life to want its freedom. The horrors of empire are only ever temporary. Meanwhile, there are very real benefits gained out of empire, not the least of which is a greater appreciation for the value of individual life, individual spirit, individual liberty. Perhaps the human species periodically needs real empire to remind it of that. In that context, perhaps empire is a good thing, but only insofar as the human species is still growing up.

The Atkinson article was, unfortunately, not a parody, despite the laughter it elicited from me. FSM also seems to have exorcised the guy from their site, which would make you think that they got some significant negative feedback from somewhere.

He is the type of guy the Right likes to keep around to stir up their more fanatical base, even if they have to distance themselves from him when he goes too far or the rock he is operating under is lifted up.

Do a google search and you can find his other articles for FSM, some of which will also use ancient Rome as an analogy. Check out this link to his book, A Study Of Our Decline, and the crazy "review," obviously written by one of his sycophants.

http://www.lulu.com/content/287155

If Atkinson could look at himself objectively, he would see that his way of thinking is much more similar to the Islamic fundamentalists he fears than the Western civilization he purports to defend from a "new Dark Age."

yeah, i agree with Lorin - no Empire in history has had the capabilities available today.. thinking everything will turn out because of history is like thinking you can drive to the store with your eyes closed because every other time you drove to the store you were fine.

It's a very different time we live in and naivety is one of our biggest problems.. apathy, ignorance is what's killing us - those evil people can only get away with what they do because of it.

I hate to point this out, since i dont agree with the site let alone the article, but at the bottom you see this little disclaimer

"Note -- The opinions expressed in this column are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the opinions, views, and/or philosophy of The Family Security Foundation, Inc."

As radical as the article itself might be you cant go saying the whole group believes that bush needs to be "President-for life"

I hate Bush as much as the next guy, but I really think you people are reaching here. Philip Atkinson is clearly an insane, fascist asshole. And yes, FSM did publish his articles. But clearly even they drew the line at "destroy the Constitution and nuke all the brown people."

Because, despite what you might like to think, there aren't very many people out there actively trying to destroy democracy. We're all Americans here. Sometimes it's too easy to forget that we aren't each other's enemy.

The absurdity here is being compounded into epic proportions by a classic primordial-grade ideologue.

The actual number of fundamentalist Christians and extreme right-wingers that would agree to a Bush monarch is, literally, minuscule, to the point of being practically nonexistent.

Which makes this blog's somewhat vapid assertions and assumptions appear ludicrous and humorous.

I run in these right-wing circles. I am a liberal, sure, but I still have a LOT of connections into far-right stations and I know of NO ONE that wants a Bush monarchy.

Why don't you morons try actually living outside of your OWN ideologies and engage in some true critical thinking rather than simplistic regurgitations. Get the tail out from between the legs and get to KNOW some people OUTSIDE of your own sad, deranged circles.

The ideologues wander around the web like fricking agitating zombies- right, left, center... Bunch of professor waste so fearful of stepping outside of a preset mental continuum.

I'm sorry to those 25% of people who actually support Bush, but he is possibly the worst president in the history of our nation and he shouldn't have even gotten elected to a second term. He would be a horrible "president for life".

At 5:58 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Getting rid of democracy in America relies on there being one there in the first place.

You have a system in which:
the guy who gets the least votes wins.
corporations (of which many politicians are board members) often have more influence than the voters.
and a leader with only 25% cannot be replaced for years.

America is probably the least democratic country in the western world.

Is this for certain a "legitimate" article? Is there any indication at all that this may have been a clever hackjob by someone who may have hacked the webpage? I am not trying to defend any group that includes these idiots and monsters but I AM hoping to prevent embarrassment for those pointing out this incredible article IF it turns out to be a hoax.

The very idea of kicking Arabs out of Iraq and peopling the country with Amerikans is ridiculous on its face and that point alone makes me suspicious of the veracity of the entire article...on the other hand, Darth Cheney is on the board and he is a full-on Torquemada.

At 12:22 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

To the previous "anonymous" poster:
I had to laugh at your statement that "there aren't very many people out there actively trying to destroy democracy"... I guess you're not reading the news, since the Bush admininistration seems to be the strongest opponent to democracy, and it's our current government.

Who are you saying "drew the line at 'destroy the constitution'"?
Our Constitution is already in tatters. Thanks to the PATRIOT acts and several other documents, we have given up our first, fourth, and fifth amendment rights entirely, and have cheerfully given others the power to do with us as they please. People are now being charged with treason for non-violent protesting.

Have you seen the new national emergency planning document? Bush, at the head of the DHS, in complete control of the country. Sound a bit unbelievable? Look it up.

Some other things you might want to use your favorite search engine for: articles containing words like "less lethal weapon", "puke ray", "microwave gun". we (ha, we! more like they, since none of us have these) now have weapons designed to turn peaceful demonstrations into violence-fests, allowing the police to feel "threatened" and whip out the tasers, then the rifles and shotguns.

It wouldn't surprise me if 'Dubya' wants a full scale civil uprising, so he can declare a state of national emergency and take over completely.

Welcome to 1984 in 2007.

Are you ready for world war three? This administration is doing everything in its power to start it.

The US is not a democracy, it is a republic. We are STATES first, and then a UNION of states. Conservatives want less power for the federal govt, and more decisions made at the local, state, and community level, where more people tend to agree with each other, thus eliminating blanket policy which everybody may not agree with.

At 4:57 PM, Blogger Unknown said...

FSM (Family Security Matters) is the same acronym as the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I think you've been had.

At 5:35 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Phillip, while you have described true conservatives, the neocons running this administration have demonstrated an unquenchable desire for ever-increasing federal power, in everything from drug enforcement to Total Information Awareness (because knowledge is most definitely power). Let's also remember, before complacently saying "well, this is still America", that it s not. Jose Padilla, an American citizen, was arrested on American soil, and held incommunicado for three years without being charged, provided access to counsel, or tried. This violated at least his Sixth Amendment rights, and habeas corpus. Not so long ago this would have been absolutely unthinkable. Now it's included in the major media reports on his conviction, without even a comment. Why the lack of outrage? Precisely because the MSM report it as just another part of the story. The difference between 40-point bold type on Page 1 and a 2-inch side column on page 15 is really all it takes to make the difference between riots in the streets and turning on American Idol. We get the government we deserve.
Also, go to Google News and type in "family security matters". Only a handful of hits, but they show that FSM is either an exceptionally good hoax, or real.

At 8:02 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

wow that is some messed up stuff.

But I do agree with some of the people that say there will be another 9-11 before the end of Bush's term. I'd hate to say it but I can see our administration doing something like this again, just as a last ditch effort to keep bush in...but its not about keeping bush in, since bush is just a puppet. Its about keeping Cheney in, hes the puppet master cause we all know bush is just an overgrown monkey :(

If the Republicans hold their current strength, or increase it, in the 2006 Congressional elections, expect this measure to pass allowing Bush to remain President...

Isn't it about time for another American Revolution? A democratic (not refering to the democratic party here, but democracy in general) government is supposed to act upon the will of the people, not the interests of a few elitists or corporations. Throughout the past 6 years, we have seen one instance after another where the will of the people (the same people for whom democracy is supposed to speak) has been blatently ignored and/or exploited. We have seen constant examples of a government more secretive than the KGB conducting deals behind closed doors, so the American people don't know about these deals until it is too late. My question is: What can we do about this? Our Congress won't move forward with the impeachment process, they are turning a blind eye to a power abusive administration while said administration rapes America of our rights, our liberties, and our securities! Wake up America! The time for action has come!!
