Purple-thumbed Republicans 'tipping hat' to Iraqis in weekend straw poll

This weekend, Americans will see images of voters emerging from polling booths proudly displaying their purple-stained thumbs as a mark of pride after their democratic effort.
The images will not be beamed from Baghdad, though, but from Ames, Iowa, where Republicans will gather for an annual straw poll. This year's straw poll will be the first to have voters dip their thumbs in the same kind of dye used in the 2005 national elections in Iraq.
"We recognize the great privilege of voting by tipping our hat to the Iraqi people who cast their first votes in a free and democratic election," Chuck Laudner, the Iowa Republican Party's executive director, said in a news release. "Iowans will be just as proud to display their inked thumb as the newly liberated Iraqi people were."

Dumbasses.
Wow, between this and making fun of John Kerry it seems Republican man are just looking for an excuse to don purple without making the theocrats think they're gay.
And how is that Iraqi government doing these days?
Republicans don't want to address the current situation, nor do they have any answers, so they'll do their best to make it seem alright as it seemed during the Iraqi elections way back when. They might as well paint a turd purple.
Of course if they really wanted to do it right they shouldn't stop at purple thumbs.
How about a few dozen mortar rounds in downtown Des Moines, some highway overpasses blown up, a few dozen people turning up in Ames with their throats cut from ear to ear, two hours of electricity a day, contaminated drinking water, some SUVs machine-gunned at random...
Republicans need to live the experience!
As a Christian I feel that role modelling the gay lifestyle is damaging to the moral lives of children.
I wonder what kind of skin-penetrating drug they're going to put in that ink?
