McConnell Too Worried To Fundraise for Northup

In a further sign that Sen. Mitch McConnell is growing increasingly scared about his impending retirement in 2008, it looks like he has stopped raising money for Anne Northup, his hand-picked candidate for Governor. Northup’s campaign is in such financial shambles that she cannot afford to give yard signs to her supporters and is attempting to sell them through her website:

In an unusual political venture, Republican gubernatorial candidate Anne Northup’s campaign Web site is advertising yard signs for sale.

And in Kentucky, where campaign promotional materials have always been distributed free, Northup’s approach is eye-catching.

The drawback, Baranowski said, is the possibility that some people might see the move as a signal that Northup, a former congresswoman from Louisville, is dealing with financial woes in the campaign.
