Quite a week in the "war on terror", and it's only Wednesday.........
- Britain and Denmark (and, what the hell, Lithuania) are pulling back
- Italy's PM resigns after coaltion wouldn't back expansion of US air base
- Italians took to the streets in protest of that base expansion (I guess when Italians speak, their representatives listen..........)
- "bombings in the Baghdad area have claimed more than 100 lives since Sunday " and worries rise over development of chlorine gas bombs

from my understanding of Italian politics, the government is very unstable ... this is not because of a poor system but of how well developed their democracy is. If I am not mistaken, Italy has one of the most politically aware and active populations in the world.
yeah, that rings a bell with me, too. Democracy can be messy; who really believes democracy is what the Administration really wants in Iraq, especially after the less than favorable result for they saw with the PLO
