Hey Jeanne, What About the Debts?

The Politico's Jeanne Cummings has a nice story on "GOP struggles as woes mount up." Specifically, she notes the troubles of Rep. John Doolittle and Rep. Rick Renzi:
Today, the party itself is having trouble raising money and Renzi’s temporary resignation from the Intelligence Committee will slow his already lagging fundraising. In the first quarter, he reported raising $117,000 and had only an $80,000 cash balance. In the same cycle in 2005, he raised $322,000 and had $440,000 in cash...

Doolittle reported raising $147,601 in the first quarter, which is better than the same period in 2005, when he collected $102,000. But back then Doolittle was considered a safe incumbent and he wasn’t racking up legal fees. This cycle, Doolittle has $102,000 in the bank compared to $162,000 in the first quarter two years ago.
Only a little problem. As we previously wrote, Doolittle also has campaign debts of $172,000 and Renzi has campaign debts of $494,555. Looks like they're in a bit more trouble than this article leads one to believe. Come on Jeanne...
